5/5 Stars
Another brilliant read from Meg Collett! It can be read as a stand alone if you haven't read the End Of Days series (if you haven't why the hell not???!!! You're missing some serious awesomeness!) This book starts with beloved, sarcastic, pink haired, whiskey drinking, HILARIOUS Clark who is stuck in the (unwanted) position of leader of the Nephilum and trying not to screw it up. Add some whiskey to that, a warrior angel with some jealousy issues and a bunch of bitter Descendants and ... awesomeness ensues.
Clark was supposed to have accidentally killed Lucifer with the power of the Watcher's magic he inadvertently put on his arms, but if that is true why is he having dreams about him? And why does Lucifer seem to have lost a big portion of his sanity in these dreams, c'mon he was likable at one point - at least in Clark's opinion. Why are people ending up murdered in the compound? And what is he going to do about Sophia's sister showing up? Are the dreams just dreams or are they more premonitions? And where is Michaelia when he needs her?
Lucky for him he has Zarachiel, an angel who had his wings ripped off of his body and chose to stay on earth with Clark and help him. Forever beautiful, the mangled, introspective angel is exactly who Clark needs on his side. He also has Camille, the beautiful Throne Angel who has been by his side since he rescued her (not always in a pleasant way). She has a chip on her shoulder, a huge attitude and may have some jealousy issues. Personally, I think she's awesome.
So Clark is trying to figure out what the hell is going on while the 'head' of the Descendants, sent to their compound by his own mother, is trying to get rid of him. -- another shot of whiskey please ---
This is just a fantastic read from Meg and the cliff hanger at the end had my jaw on the floor, can't wait for the next one!
